Goofs During the latter half of the movie Zach's beard alternates between real and obviously fake. Quotes Zack Hutton : [rubbing genie lamp] Get me the fuck out of here. User reviews 44 Review. Top review. Good film for John Ritter fans. John Ritter plays the character Zack with his trademark physical comedy in full form. Two scenes stand out for me. One is the drop-dead hilarious bit after the therapy session when he goes spastic; and yes, the other is the overrated but still good glow-in-the-dark condom fight scene.

This is one of Blake Edwards' better films certainly miles better than "10". A good film for fans of John Ritter also, especially if all one knows of his acting is the sitcom "Three's Company". Details Edit. Release date March 3, United States.

United States. Malibu, California, USA. Carangi and Linter, you see, had unbelievable sexual chemistry that no one had ever seen before. Remember, this was the late s. All of a sudden, this rebellious kid from the streets of Philly was wanted by all the top haute couture houses, including fashion heavyweights Versace, Armani, and Yves Saint Laurent. Before long, she was gracing the cover of American Vogue and Cosmopolitan magazine and had become a one-name wonder. But for Gia. The day after their steamy photoshoot, Gia asked Sandy Linter if she could give her a ride home.

Although infatuation may be the better word. For a while, the beautiful young couple was joined at the hip. They exchanged flowers just like Gia used to do in school, ate in fancy restaurants, and spent wild nights out clubbing.

Yet, most importantly, for the first time in her maelstrom of life, Gia had found someone who finally understood her.

After being thrust into the arms of fame and fortune——and the loneliness that comes with it——year-old Gia had finally found not just a lover but a real companion. Yet the two were never destined to live happily ever after. But the many pressures of being a supermodel were relentless.

Though Carangi liked to project the image of being a loner who needed no help from anyone, those closest to her claimed the opposite was true. Gia always wanted more from Sandy in this relationship—more of her time and more of her affection: Gia wanted to possess Sandy.

Just like her relatives said, Gia had always been a needy child. In addition to her edginess, Gia harbored deep loneliness and emptiness. She constantly strove to find the love that was taken from her in childhood. Maybe I am discovering who I am. Without Sandy, Gia needed new coping mechanisms. The city's two most famous hotspots were frequented by Warhol, Bowie Capote, and anyone who was anyone, but the clubs were as dangerous and they were alluring.

While Gia was still a teenager, she was already hooked on marijuana, cocaine, and quaaludes, but then she started using heroin. Cocaine use was rife in the disco era, and coke users soon turned to heroin to bring them down when they were too high.

The supermodel can be seen merrily bopping along in the crowd as Debbie Harry sings on stage. Just as Gia was at the top of her game, her mentor, maternal figure, and rock Wilhelmina Cooper was diagnosed with lung cancer.

Wilhelmina sadly died in March , aged just Grieving, depressed, and devastated, she soon became addicted to heroin. She even started showing up for work high as a kite. Yet, even before her addiction impacted her career, Gia was known for being a prima donna. Her unique, high-maintenance, diva behavior and edginess meant she was already famously hard to work with, but as her drug use escalated, she became impossible to work with.

Even before the heroin, Gia was known for turning up late, going missing, or canceling work. Then she started falling asleep in front of the camera. This tragic, almost Freudian misspelling speaks volumes about where her head was at. Instead of becoming the heroine of her own story, she had become hopelessly dependent on the drug that would eventually kill her. Sandy was shocked to discover her year-old ex-lover barely had the energy to dress or look after herself.

Soon, Carangi was almost unable to work and was impossible to be around. As Gia used the same point to inject heroin over and over again, an unsightly abscess appeared on her hand. The abscess soon became infected and damaged a vein, so Gia underwent surgery to fix the wound, but continued shooting up. The track marks, scars, and bruises on her arms ruined her photos, and, pretty soon, nobody wanted to work with her.

One legendary fashion photographer stood by Gia. That was her old friend Francesco Scavullo. The veteran sixty-year-old no doubt helped her through some dark times but during one photo shoot in the Caribbean, even he began to recognize that Gia was in need of serious, professional help.

Francesco later told the behind-the-scenes story of the Caribbean shoot, when Gia had a total breakdown: "She was crying, she couldn't find her drugs. I literally had to lay her down on her bed until she fell asleep. It looks like a volcano! No amount of editing and airbrushing could conceal her unsightly scars and needle marks. This damage, coupled with her bad attitude, endangered her career, and Gia was one bad day away from being blacklisted. The same month, Gia left Wilhelmina Models because her old modeling agency meant nothing to her without her mentor at the helm.

She signed a deal with rival Ford Models, but her plan went horribly wrong. Ford Models dropped her within weeks, and from there, her career quickly flushed down the pan. Even ex-lover Sandy Linter left her in the lurch. Being set adrift was terrible enough, but now she was alone, unemployed, friendless, and consumed by her heroin addiction. Gia Carangi knew she had to change her life, so she came up with a shocking tactic to get her life back on track.

In February , she wisely abandoned the many glittering temptations of New York City and headed home to stay with her mother and stepfather in Philadelphia. Though gripped by her addiction, she was determined to get clean. In February , Gia went on a day detox program. The three-week detox program seemed to work, but her sobriety was short-lived. Not long after, she landed herself in some serious hot water. Just like her rehabilitation, her car chase crashed and burned when she careened her car into a fence.

It was a far cry from the chain link fence photoshoot, which catapulted her to fame just three years prior. Police arrested her and determined her to be under the influence of alcohol and cocaine. After her release, she signed with Legends modeling agency and worked on and off in Europe. In , Gia made her first and only television interview on ABC.

But her plan backfired massively when shortly before appearing on camera, Gia snorted heroin backstage. Yet throughout the interview, her eyes were cut with the donut glaze and thousand-yard stare of a heroin user. It was evident to the world and his wife that she was still using drugs. Then, later that year, her luck changed for the better. By late , Gia was still struggling with drug abuse but felt determined to make a grand comeback.

Elite Model Management gave her the benefit of the doubt and signed her up. Yet finding work would still be difficult on account of her tarnished reputation. Behind the camera was her friend Francesco Scavullo and his long-term assistant, Sean Byrnes. I could see the change in her beauty. There was an emptiness in her eyes.

The April Cosmo cover featured Gia awkwardly hiding both her arms under a billowing dress. Unfortunately, this unnatural pose was the only way to cover up the track marks on her disfigured arms. After this disastrous shoot, Gia was forced to model for department store catalogs. But then came one final shot at redemption…. Despite her dependency issues and notoriously bad behavior, Gia landed a gig with famed fashion photographer Richard Avedon.

All she had to do was not mess up, and everything would be alright. After a hard night of partying, ex-girlfriend Sandy Linter recalls Gia sitting in the kitchen in the cold light of day with the phone pressed to her ear. As a supermodel, missing work is a big deal. She showed up at work but soon told everyone she was going out for cigarettes and never returned. As they probably say in the fashion industry, this was her last chance saloon.

Carangi enrolled in a methadone program but soon relapsed into using heroin again. As a result, she was blacklisted by all the major agencies, becoming a pariah in the industry. With her job prospects have dried up in her darkest hour, Gia was forced to scrape the bottom of the barrel just to earn some money. Her career came full circle when she found herself appearing in catalogs for an obscure German mail-order company.

But Gia used drugs on set, so the company sent her packing. If she thought modeling for a mail-order company was the bottom of the barrel, her career was about to get much, much worse. In December , Gia was admitted to an intense drug treatment program at Eagleville Hospital, an addiction treatment center in Pennsylvania. Afterward, she took a job selling jeans in a Pennsylvanian shopping mall but eventually quit.

Next, she worked as a checkout clerk and finally in a nursing home as a cafeteria checkout clerk. By , Gia started using again. Broke and with nowhere to go, her life took a dark and dangerous turn. By late , Gia was injecting again and became a sex worker in Atlantic City.

Just a few years before, her body made her the first true supermodel; now, she was reduced to selling her body on the streets for a few dollars. The former model was extremely sick and was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia. Top cast Edit.
